Boundary County, the owner and operator of the Boundary County Airport, is looking to the future. The County has been working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct an Environmental Assessment to identify and evaluate proposed improvements at the airport.
Proposed improvements include several safety improvements involving the removal of trees, relocation of overhead power lines, shifting the runway away from U.S. Highway 2, perimeter fence improvements, and acquisition of land located within the Runway Protection Zone.
Dave Parker, Airport Manager, emphasized the need for these project improvements. “These improvements are a top safety priority of the Airport and will help support the long-term sustainability of the Airport and its ability to continue to safely serve the community” Parker said.
The Boundary County Airport is a public-use general aviation airport that provides a scenic destination spot for all flyers while supporting the economic growth and development of the surrounding community. The airport supports flight instruction, charter flights and aircraft maintenance.
In recent years, the airport provided a vital community role as a base for fire detection and aerial fire attack on behalf of the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Forest Service.
These and other uses make the airport a vital part of the region’s economy and support the effectiveness of the Idaho Airport System.
A Draft Environmental Assessment has been prepared and the public is invited to review the draft and provide comments. The Draft Environmental Assessment is available here.
