Lance and Susie Nason moved from the great state of Texas in 2021 to escape the quickly progressing business and overreaching of the Texas government to Bonners Ferry to slow down, raise their family and begin their lifelong dream of homesteading.
They met and married in Saudia Arabia in 2010 where they were both on travel nursing assignments and within a few years moved to Lance’s hometown of Birmingham, Alabama where they started their family.
Lance and Susie returned to Texas shortly after starting their family for Lance to continue his schooling. In 2020 he received his Family Nurse Practitioner license.
Susie, from Ireland originally, found a love of farm life and being a stay-at-home mom after feeling the need to slow down after a long stint as an ICU nurse.
The Nasons feel blessed to have had the opportunity to relocate to Bonners Ferry where they purchased a five-acre micro farm.
Now, it’s nothing crazy, but with chickens, goats, sheep, rabbits and pigs, they were just where they wanted to be … until … pigs turned into more pigs and now there are 27 piglets that need their very own farms!
There are two breeds for sale at F3: Meishan and Meishan/Mangalista cross.
Meishans produce an intensely micro-marbled red meat pork. Meishan lard and fats are significantly lighter, finer and render at lower temperatures than other breeds. The result is incredibly tender meat as compared to more common swine breeds. They are sometimes known as the Kobe Bryant of pork.
The Mangalista is a heritage breed pork known for its rich, nutty flavor and tender, supple texture. This is due to its high fat content and marbling, resulting in a deep, rich flavor. The meat is reddish in color and marbled with creamy white fat, high in omega-3 fatty acids and natural antioxidants.
