Boundary County residents demand change

On June 28, 2025, there was a car vs. semi collision that nearly cost two children their lives. Life flight was called to the scene, and one was whisked off to Sacred Heart. The second child shortly behind the first being life flighted from Boundary Community Hospital. Both had significant injuries that could have been avoided.

The semi-truck driver reportedly attempted to pass multiple cars on the left just as the children were turning left on to Turner Hill Road from US 95. The semi-truck hit the driver’s side of a small sedan, and the driver was cited for in-attentive driving by Idaho State Patrol.

Boundary County is calling for change.

“This horrifying incident underscores a pressing issue: the dire need for improved accountability for drivers, especially those from other countries, and better roadway infrastructure along Highway 95.” one resident says, “Currently, the highway serves as a major artery from the Canadian border down to Boise, laden with challenges such as inadequate road conditions and dangerous driving behaviors that threaten the safety of all travelers.

Statistics show that these highways witness frequent accidents, many resulting from speeding and inattentive driving. According to the Idaho Transportation Department, in 2022 alone, there were over 500 reported incidents along this stretch, leading to numerous injuries and fatalities. This situation demands immediate action.”
