UPDATE 1:38 p.m. – The South Meadow Creek Fire was detected on August 12th. The fire is currently estimated at 60 acres, with 70% exhibiting active fire behavior, mainly on the northeast flank. The fire is burning in thick timber and steep terrain.
Yesterday’s response tactics included heavy aerial response with multiple retardant and bucket drops. Today, aerial resources continue work while ground crews and heavy equipment work on access and establishing anchor points.
Resources currently on scene include multiple aircraft, two 20-person hand crews, and heavy equipment.
A local Type 3 Incident Management Team will take command of the fire tomorrow morning.
August 13 at 10:55 a.m. – The fire is now 60 acres per the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).
3:19 p.m. The fire is now 20 acres per the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).
11:30 a.m. Units are responding to a reported vegetation fire with a heat signature visible on the Watch Duty map per WildCAD. A helicopter is overhead per flight radar and light smoke is visible on the Black Mtn Boundary camera above.
