Measles is a very contagious sickness that spreads easily from person to person. It can spread by air and direct contact or when someone coughs or sneezes.
The first signs of measles usually appear about one to two weeks after a person is exposed. They can feel like a bad cold.
The symptoms are:
- Fever greater than 101 degrees Fahrenheit
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Red, watery eyes
- Rash that usually starts on the face along the hairline and behind the ears and then spreads down the body
What should you do?
If you or someone you know develops any of these symptoms, contact your primary care provider and the school nurse if your child is in school.
