Sheriff’s office warns of scam

Boundary County Sheriff badgeA message from the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office:

The Sheriff’s Office has been made aware that members of the public are receiving fraudulent phone calls that appear to come from the Sheriff’s Office phone number. These calls are not from our office.

Scammers are using caller ID “spoofing” to make it look like the call is official. They may claim you have unpaid fines, missed jury duty, or have an active warrant, and then demand payment or personal information.

Always remember: The Sheriff’s Office will never request payment over the phone. We will not ask for prepaid cards, gift cards, wire transfers, or personal financial information. If you have questions or want to verify a call, please contact us directly at our official number. Stay alert and help spread the word. Your safety and awareness help protect our whole community.
