Vehicle vs. train collision claims Sandpoint man

Idaho State Police is investigating a vehicle collision that occurred on December 28, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., at the intersection of West Selle Road and North Boyer Road, north of Sandpoint, Idaho.

A 63-year-old-male from Sandpoint was travelling westbound on West Selle Road in a white 2008 Nissan Titan when he struck a northbound moving Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.

As a result of the crash, the Nissan Titan was pushed a short distance off the roadway, and the train came to a stop after initiating the brakes. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries on scene.

The road was blocked due to the stopped train for approximately four hours. Next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
