Let’s tell our lawmakers what we want.

The following e-mail was sent by me to Representatives Mark Sauter and Cornel Rasor, and Senator Jim Woodward on February 2, 2026.

“At a town hall meeting in Bonners Ferry on Saturday, January 31, 2026, there was a brief mention of bills that you are working on. If you and other lawmakers are truly interested in knowing whether potentially controversial bills you plan to introduce would be popular with your constituents, town halls are a good place to gauge that interest with a simple show of hands. I believe people want to know what you intend to do as much as what you’ve already done.

Thank you for taking the time to talk with us in person.”

If you, as a reader, share this desire, please let our local lawmakers know—respectfully. We benefit from town hall meetings as opportunities to speak directly with those who make our laws, and respectful dialogue is key to maintain open channels of communication necessary for a democratic process to function.

Below are e-mail addresses for our local lawmakers. If you choose to write them, please be sure to sign your full name and include your zip code.
