John and Linda Alt welcomed their herd ‘s first calf of the season Wednesday, an easy birth to start this year’s calving season … with 27 more calves expected in the days and weeks ahead.
“Looking good,” Linda posted to Facebook. “Hope the rest are as easy … Love it when there’s a bunch running and jumping around.”
It’s an annual ritual long familiar to both. John, now 91, started ranching in Boundary County with Gene Neumayer in the early 1960s. He and Linda married in 1967 and they started their ranch in Paradise Valley two years later, 57 years ago.
Last November, John and Linda and sons Don and Pat were recognized as Bonner-Boundary Cattlemen’s Association’s 2025 Beef Family of the Year.
