Former Badger, Helene Rae, daughter of Brian and Teresa of Bonners Ferry, is making waves as a Yote.

As a freshman, Helene threw an impressive 45.87 feet in the shot put this weekend to write her name in the history books at the NAIA Division 1, College of Idaho.

According to Yote Athletics, “Freshman thrower Helene Rae delivered the headline performance by breaking the indoor school record in the women’s shot put with a 13.98-meter throw. The effort secured an NAIA “B” qualifying mark and currently places her sixth nationally, marking one of the strongest early-season performances in program history.”

“College of Idaho freshman Helene Rae was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week following a strong showing in the throwing events at a highly competitive meet over the weekend.” Yote Athletics says about the January Lauren McCluskey Memorial Invitational at the University of Idaho.

“Rae, a thrower from Bonners Ferry, Idaho, placed fifth in both the shot put (13.14 meters) and the weight throw (14.09 meters). Both marks rank among the best in program history, sitting No. 3 all-time in the shot put and No. 9 in the weight throw at C of I.

Competing against a deep field that included NCAA Division I, Division II and NAIA athletes, Rae advanced to the finals in both events, continuing an impressive start to her collegiate career.”

The Yotes are in La Grande, Oregon today and tomorrow at the EOU Last Chance Invite.

The NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held March 5 thought 7 at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center at Celebration Pointe in Gainesville, Florida.
