I’m Chuck Lowman, and I’m seeking your support to represent our district in the Idaho House of Representatives. My life has always been centered around service. From earning my Eagle Scout rank to serving as a Christian missionary in eight countries worldwide, I have developed a strong commitment to trustworthiness, loyalty and duty to God and country.
After 9/11, I felt called to serve as an Army chaplain, spending nearly four years deployed in combat zones. My fight was a little different – though often awoken by air-raid sirens and participating in some 600 outside-the-wire operations – my job was often answering late night phone calls from struggling soldiers, helping soldiers to navigate family loss back home, broken marriages, and the difficult moral choices a soldier faces in warfare.
I presided over marriages, baptisms, and child dedications, to the more difficult honors of performing death notifications to family members of soldiers taken in battle and honoring them in memoriam.
After 12 years of service and much time away from loved ones, my wife and I chose to return to Idaho to raise our family. Since returning, I’ve worked as a biologist, pastor and business owner while establishing our home in Bonner County.
My passion for serving others continues to this day. Even with the demands of running a business, I substitute teach in the LPOSD Beacon program, supporting children with significant behavioral and emotional challenges. I also serve on the Bonner County Historical Society and Museum board, volunteer with the Sandpoint High School Parent Teacher Organization, coach for track and field, and work to address mental health needs in our community.
I believe effective leadership begins by listening. As Stephen Covey said, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.”
My military experience reinforced the importance of understanding problems before rushing to solutions. Unfortunately, some Idaho politicians, particularly those in the Idaho Freedom Caucus, seem more interested in rigid ideology than engaging with community concerns. Those who offer alternative conservative ideas risk being labeled and censured instead of being heard.
I’m not here to toe the line, I’m here to represent our district.
I am a conservative who values Faith, Family, and responsible government. I believe our institutions need strong leadership to abide by constitutional and legislative limits. We should address budget challenges by reviewing the mandates that create bureaucracy, not just by imposing cuts that undermine essential services. Recent federal cuts have strained rural communities, threatening basic services and eroding trust between government and citizens.
Now, more than ever, we need leaders who are present, engaged, and committed to understanding and addressing local needs in the Idaho House of Representatives.
I am Chuck Lowman, and I ask for your vote on May 19 to be your voice in the Idaho House of Representatives.
