“We had a pretty good start to the season,” head coach Tom Turpin says. “The boys played well and came up with some timely hitting and very good pitching.”
The season opener for Badger baseball was one for the books. The Badgers took the win in game won 17-7. A combined no-hitter for Badger pitching hit the record books when Stryder Liermann, Brent Worley and Maddox Mertzweiller took control of the field and with their catchers, Kordale Burt and Cardon Pluid and walloped the Kellogg Wildcats 19-0 in game two.
In game one, Jack Woods pitched two innings allowing three hits and 4 earned runs and had three strike outs.
Gordon Woelfle pitched one inning with no hits or runs and two strikeouts.
Gavin Rider pitched one inning, gave up two hits, three runs with two earned, three strike outs and walked two.
Kordale Burt and Gavin Rider hit a double each.
In game one, there were six hits, 17 runs, six walks and four strikeouts.
In game two, Stryder Liermann pitched two innings, had no hits, no runs, six strikeouts and, walked two.
Maddox Mertzweiller pitched one inning with no hits, no runs and one strikeout.
Brent Worley pitched one inning, had no hits, no runs and three strike outs.
Jacob Solt hit a double and Stryder Liermann hit an in the park home run.
In game two, the Badgers had 19 runs on six hits, 10 base on balls and two strike outs.
Tomorrow, the Badgers JV play Priest River Varsity at Priest River High School.
Badger Varsity will play two double headers in on Saturday, March 21, two games against Moscow at Clearwater Park in Lewiston beginning at 9 a.m. and two against Grangeville at 910 S. D. Street in Grangeville, Idaho beginning at 1 p.m.
