By Idaho District 1 Senator Jim Woodward

The Flag Bill – HB 561 – that was intended to address a particular situation in Boise, created a situation in Boundary County. Our relationship with our neighbors to the north is a longstanding and fruitful one. It took a bit of arm wrestling to make my legislative colleagues in the south understand why Bonners Ferry flies the Canadian flag, but we got the Flag Bill amended and the Canadian flag will continue to fly.

Hello, my name is Tommy Gunn. I moved to Bonners Ferry in 1995 from way up North, from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I was welcomed and treated very well. I worked for School District 101, I was a janitor at the middle school. I was treated well and respected by the community and staff. I developed relationships with the students and staff that I cherish to this day. I was asked to be the guest speaker at the grade 8 graduation. I loved my time in BonnersFerry and share many wonderful stories and memories to this day whith my Canadian family and friends. I moved back to Canada in 2006. Thankyou for flying the Canadian flag. Thankyou much.
Tom,I. remember you well.Hated to see you go.Thanks for the reminder. Dave and Jean Wattenbarger,

Thanks to Jim Woodward and all the people involved to keep this tradition in Bonners Ferry alive.

I’m still embarrassed that Super 1 Bonners Ferry took down their Canadian Flag. Never understood why that happened to begin with!!
