Spot Bus – Free rides for all in Bonners Ferry

Everyone’s favorite driver, Tom!

Did you know you can get free, curb‑to‑curb rides Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. right here in Boundary County and on Thursdays to Bonner County and back again?

It’s true. The Spot Bus is for everyone, not just folks without their own transportation. Maybe you don’t feel like driving to the grocery store or an appointment. Maybe your child has an event in town and you’re under the weather. Maybe you want to grab lunch, go bowling, or swing by the community garden. The Spot Bus has you covered.

Because the service is federally funded and locally matched, there’s no charge to ride. Anyone age six and older can hop on and use Boundary County’s only public transportation option. All you need to do is call 24 hours ahead to (208)267-4740 and schedule your ride.

This isn’t some far‑off corporation. The Spot Bus is guided in part by a local board — Mr. Badger, Ron Smith, Les Pinkerton, and Deborah Rauth — all committed to serving the community and improving access for everyone.

So, here’s the big question: What would get you to ride? The Spot Bus will only keep rolling if people ride, and that includes you. Comment to give us your thoughts.

And don’t forget, every Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. the Spot Bus will run to and from Moyie Springs and Thursday at 9 a.m., the bus heads to Sandpoint so you can knock out errands, appointments, or a day in town without the hassle of driving. The Spot Bus will then load up at 2 p.m. in Sandpoint for the return trip to Bonners Ferry.

The Spot Bus runs seven days a week in Bonner County but will not be running on Sunday, April 5 in observance of Easter.

To learn more about the Spot Bus and how to ride or learn about employment opportunities, check out their website at Schedule – SPOT – Selkirk Pend Oreille Transit or give them a call at (208) 267-4740 or (208) 263-3774.

  1. No one can stress this enough! Isolation is horrible on a person. The feeling of not being mobile is extraordinarily dangerous to anyone’s wellbeing. Taking advantage of a service like the Spot Bus in this area is something no one should dismiss. It is unacceptable for someone in this town to think they can’t go get the things they need. I don’t care if you are older, disabled, in economic hardship, can’t order things on Amazon because you don’t have a credit card, or simply are afraid to explore options for “getting out” and doing what you need to do. Bonners Ferry is EXTREMELY blessed to have a service like the Spot Bus. The rides might be rough because the state hasn’t kept-up their end of the bargain on maintaining roads, but in the end, it’s absolutely worth it! I would be remiss to not mention our local driver Tom. I hear he is “good people,” and I absolutely believe he is! One sure way to make Spot Bus better is for everyone, EVERYONE who needs a ride, to utilize this service! Ever notice that even though BF is growing, it sadly still has few travel options for people? Well, the Spot Bus is “filling the gap!” It’s not a bus, it’s an angel ride for many. Please don’t believe you have to be isolated, or go without because you can’t get somewhere. Check out the Spot Bus schedule, and GO DO what you need! Thank You SPOT!
