Moyie Springs Precinct Committeeman

Elena Quinn

My name is Elena Quinn and I live in Moyie Springs. I am running for the Boundary County Republican Central Committee. My husband and I have lived here a few years now. I am a conservative. I am Pro gun, pro-life, anti-socialism, anti-communism, anti-wokism, you know, all the things the liberals hate.

My husband and I moved here after the very Republican County where we lived “flipped” in 2018. It was one of those middle of the night, the democrat got a huge jump in votes and the next morning we'd lost kind of things.

Sound familiar? Maybe they were practicing. Moving here was the best thing we ever did. We absolutely love it here.

This area and the people that we have met all seem to have the same set of values as we do. But we decided we needed to get involved. It's so easy when you're working and raising kids to just keep your head down and not realize what is happening until its too late. I get it.

I worked in the electronics industry for over 30 years and traveled all over the country and the world. I have worked with all sorts of people and cultures. I would love to work with our elected officials and the public to make the Republican Party strong here in Boundary County.

I've been attending the RCC meetings for a while now. There are some areas that I feel need some improvements.

First off, the committee itself is not even complete. Some members haven't been in a while, maybe due to illness or any number of very good reasons. But why are there no alternates? The state rules allow it. There have been a couple meetings where there was no quorum. That could easily be solved with an alternate for usual business.

The website isn't up to date. Unless you want to relive 2016. It’s been six years – there's no excuse for not doing it when it’s so easy to fix. There's no way for people to get information unless they come to the meeting. The community should have that resource.

Second, the members of the committee are supposed to attend the next level Republican Party meetings, like the Legislative, regional, and especially the state conventions. There has not been a full delegation for a long time.

I know the committee is small, but votes are votes. For example, Tom Luna, the man that brought common core to Idaho, was elected as state chairman at the last convention. He won by just a handful of votes. I think the electors deserve to have the people they elect actually represent them. That hasn't been happening.

If I'm elected, I will commit to attending these meetings when necessary.

Third, I have a bit of a different philosophy around the vetting and endorsing of candidates. The current committee doesn't do it until after the primary. They have stated it's tradition and they feel its telling people how to vote. Both of the other counties in Northern Idaho do endorse before the primary. I think there is no meaning to endorsing after the primary. We're not going to endorse the Democrat, right?

And don't we want the best possible candidate?

Not the one with the most money, the most signs, the most name recognition? I don't think endorsing is telling people how to vote any more than talking to friends and neighbors would be. It is an opinion, and as with most opinions, people can either agree or disagree.

And finally, let’s talk about RINOs. Do you think something should be done about that?

The committee can't do much, I know. We can't remove them from office or anything. But we can make a statement. We can formally notify someone who has formed a pattern of voting against the Republican party platform that we don't like what they are doing. Maybe make a public statement about it or something.

The current committee has never done this.

So those are the main reasons I'm running. If you want to know more about me and why I'm running, go checkout my website, www.elenaquinnforrcc.com and leave me some feedback. I'd love to hear from you.
