State Representative, District 1, Position A

Steve R. Johnson

I am Steve Johnson and I’m a candidate for Idaho State Representative in district one Seat A. I will work to make sure our traditional Idaho values are maintained and that we are well prepared for the future. I believe strongly in the need for common sense leadership and in a conservative fiscal policy. I have deep roots and a comprehensive understanding of North Idaho. I have been a resident of North Idaho since 1957 and was raised on our family farm in Sagle. I learned from an early age what it means to work hard, to follow our dreams and to appreciate our blessings.

I graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1968 and received my teaching and administrative degrees from the University of Idaho. Marguerite and I raised our four children on the family farm in Sagle and have amazing grandchildren living close by.

We raise cattle and hay and selective log our woods. I have been working with public and private groups for over 40 years – listening to concerns, finding solutions, supervising, evaluating and coordinating staff and overseeing large budgets. My priorities are:
  1. Reduce property taxes. The first bill I will sponsor is one that reduces property taxes. The homeowners exemption must be increased so Idaho families are not taxed out of their homes.
  2. Improve roads, bridges, broadband and related infrastructure. I will work to make sure that the federal infrastructure money allocated to Idaho is well spent.
  3. Education. I will vote for accountable quality education. I support the current citizens education initiative that will be on the ballot this November.

I will protect traditional Idaho values by supporting planned growth resources that are available from the state. Let’s respect our wonderful Idaho, and let’s work together to create our exciting future.
