Moyie Springs gearing up for first Village Christmas Craft Fair

November 25, 2022

Lillie Blackwell
The City of Moyie Springs will have its first Craft Fair from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, December 2, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, December 3, at Moyie Springs City Hall, complete with door prizes, goodie gift bags (while supply last), Polaroid pictures by the Christmas tree and complimentary coffee, hot cider and hot chocolate. On Saturday, there will be Christmas crafts for your children to make while you are checking out the vendors' crafts.

After being retired for 14 years, Lillie Blackwell felt she was ready to be involved in the community again. The idea of having a Christmas Craft Sale started back in 2020, when Lillie Blackwell discussed the idea with city clerk Donna Funkhouser. Ideas were tossed back and forth as to the date, theme, time and crafters. When it was finally decided they should really do this for the community, the ideas just flowed.

After several talks, Lillie presented the idea to the Moyie Springs City Council, saying we have been like a little sleepy hollow for so many years.

"We have this nice new City Hall building and it should be used not only for a Christmas Craft Sale event," she said, "but other events throughout the year."

The idea was well received and the city council gave a unanimous thumbs up and the planning began in earnest.

Flyers went out in the mail to Moyie Springs residents in October to fill the 13 free table spaces and within two weeks all were. Volunteers painted signs and put them up, set up the Christmas tree and decorated it, set up the room for the crafters and set to work putting goodie bags together. Volunteers signed up to be greeters at the door, serve lunch to the crafters on Friday and Saturday and help on Saturday with the children's craft day. There already have even been a few who have volunteered to clean up on Sunday.

"Our community has pulled together to bring this Moyie Springs Village Craft Fair to life, Lillie said. It really does take a village.

There will be a variety of affordable crafts and some very unique items for sale. There will be tables by young crafters, fresh baked goods, woodworking, jewelry, ornaments, Christmas décor and cards, scarfs, goat milk soap and so much more. Not all vendors will be taking credit cards, but will accept cash and some local checks as well.
