'2 the Border Bike Rally' coming to Porthill |
||
May 30, 2023
Tony is an avid motorcyclist who rode his Adventure Bike from Bonners Ferry to Prudhoe Bay at the top of Alaska and back last year. Troy, just getting into motorcycles, insists it's due to peer pressure, not a midlife crisis. They were chatting one day not so long ago and Tony waxed philosophic on how nice it would be to have a motorcycle event to help connect the community, and it all began to fall into place. They opined that Porthill would be an ideal location, being, as it is, on the Selkirk Loop and at the end of the Idaho Backdoor Discover Routes, offering some great scenic routes on which to hold rides. They met with the Jacobson family who own Jakes Landing, which came near to closing as a result of the pandemic and the closed border, and all agreed that a motorcycle rally now that the border is reopened would be a great boost for the businesses at Porthill, including Jake's Landing. "We have seen tremendous support from the motorcycle community as we have worked to organize the event," Troy said. "We are hoping to get the word out to all riders within 300 miles who might want to attend. There will be lots of rides, a poker run, activities, vendors and more. All proceeds from this event will go to Jake's Landing and funds raised from the raffle will go to Backcountry Discovery Routes, a non-profit." The rally is for all types of motorcycles, whether you’re on an ADV, Dual Sport, cruiser, sport tourer or three wheeler, you're invited to come and enjoy the community! The poker run and self-guided day rides will take you to some incredible views in the area. You’ll be amazed at the beautiful ride up (or down) to Porthill, Idaho. Camping is available all three days along the Kootenai River for moto/tent campers, and there are other lodging options available nearby. There is a restaurant and general store on site. Vendors, including some of the top names in the cycling industry, will be set up for the duration. Admission to all three days, to include camping, is $59 per person, including a small swag bag, and a VIP pass providing access to all three days of the event, a camping spot, grab-and-go breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday, dinner on Saturday, a one year PRO subscription to Rever, and a swag bag stuffed with some awesome products from their top vendor partners is $139. Or you can get a Saturday-only pass to take part in the rides, the poker run, raffles and more for $29. Passports aren't required but it's recommended you bring them along.
