Boundary County Bear Fair coming

Our beautiful region is home to the majestic bear, and what better way to honor our shared space than by coming together to learn, share and grow, and the Kootenai Resource Initiative has curated a special day for our tight-knit community, the Boundary County Bear Fair, kicking off at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 30, at the Boundary County Fairgrounds.

Events will include:
• Bear Spray 101: Witness our radio-controlled Grizzly in action and truly understand the speed of these magnificent creatures. Get hands-on experience with bear spray, a must-have for our North Idaho hikes. (Demo times below)
• Electric Fencing – A Local’s Guide: Whether it's our cherished beehives, backyard chickens, or the family goat, learn the homesteader's way of securing them against curious bears.
• Apple Cider Press – Idaho Style: Harvest season is here! Bring your homegrown apples, and we’ll press them into fresh cider. And let’s chat about how timely fruit picking keeps the bears at bay. (First come, first served!)
• Livestock Carcass Pick-up - A Community Initiative: Get the lowdown on our new program, designed with our local ranchers and farmers in mind.
• Camping in Our Own Backyard: From Priest Lake to the Selkirks, let's talk about setting up camp the North Idaho way, respecting both nature and our bear neighbors.
• All About Huckleberries: It wouldn’t be North Idaho without our beloved huckleberries. Come get the scoop!
And what’s a gathering without some good food? Relish FREE hot dogs and hamburgers, plus a chance to win prizes!
