NASA astronaut to speak at EAA meeting

October 10, 2023

The November 21 meeting of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 757 will include a presentation on building the International Space Station by Dr. John Phillips of Sandpoint. Dr. Phillips graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, became a Naval aviator flying A-7s, including 250 traps (carrier landings), and rose to the rank of captain.

Obtaining his Master of Science degree in geophysics while in the Navy, he decided to return to school after retiring.

He received his Ph.D. in space physics from UCLA before going to work for a little known and generally irrelevant agency called NASA as an astronaut.

The routine of going to work at NASA included such mundane tasks as two missions aboard the Space Shuttle and six months aboard the International Space Station, commuting to and from that remote work site aboard Russian rockets.

The meeting will be at the Boundary County Airport at 6 p.m.
