Should RCC endorse? An emphatic 'no!'

April 24, 2022

During the candidate forum at the high school last week I was given a terrific question that I would like to explain further. The question: Should the Republican Central Committees (RCC) endorse individual candidates prior to the primaries? My reply: Absolutely Not! The RCC should be a grass roots organization that is delegated to help Republican candidates reach out to the voting public, like this most recent candidate forum at the high school.

They facilitate fundraisers like the Lincoln Day Dinner. Once the voting public has selected a candidate at the primaries, the RCC gets behind the individual and helps them through to the general election. The voting public should be telling the RCC who they endorse, not the other way around!

Last month at a Bonner and Boundary County RCC joint committee meeting a vote was taken to endorse two individuals prior to the primaries. Scott Herndon as Senator for District 1 and Todd Engel as Representative for District 1B. Scott Herndon is the Chairman of the Bonner County RCC and also the Vice-Chairman of the Legislative District 1 Committee.

Information was then circulated that both Bonner and Boundary County RCCs endorsed these candidates. Boundary County RCC then published a short note clarifying they will not endorse any candidates until after the primaries.

We are being exposed to manipulated information, negative campaigning and big money coming from PACs endorsing the selected group of individuals. It’s time for us to push back. Please vote in the upcoming primary on May 17.
