Where is Fulcher's response to January 6 committee findings?

June 16, 2022

By Kaylee Peterson
Candidate, U.S. House of Representatives

A growing body of evidence, as laid out in the January 6 hearings, demonstrates that President Trump betrayed our Constitution, betrayed the legal framework of our nation and betrayed his own conservative values when he demanded that Vice President Mike Pence unilaterally and illegally decide the outcome of the 2020 election.

The question I have, as a candidate for Congress, is, “Where is Russ Fulcher’s response?”

As I watched the third hearing, I saw some of the most conservative political minds in our nation – legal counsel, White House staff and more – condemn the conspiracy to have Pence unilaterally reject legitimate electoral votes during the joint session of Congress on January 6.

While I may disagree with some of Pence’s policies as Vice President, I was grateful for his steadfast refusal to bow to pressure to betray his Constitutional duty. I heard his chief legal counsel recount the depths they went to pouring over historical and legal precedent and our framers’ intent, all of which substantiated the Vice President’s first instinct that what he was being asked to do was wholly unconstitutional.

As a proud conservative, I cannot understand Russ Fulcher’s refusal to make a statement about these findings. Where is the moral outrage? Where is the defense of our Constitutional principles?

The framework of separation of powers is not a partisan issue, it is an American issue. If I am elected to Congress, I will hold the oath I swear to our country and our Constitution above all others, including party politics. The people of Idaho deserve a statesman who understands and protects these basic principles of our democracy.

And Idahoans deserve to hear Russ Fulcher’s response to the evidence in light of his continuing support for Donald Trump. What do you have to say, Representative Fulcher?
