Marti gets two to ten years on rape charges

November 26, 2021

Eric Marti
With his victim present in the courtroom to hear him apologize, Judge Barbara Buchanan last Friday sentenced Eric Steven Marti, 27, Bonners Ferry, to up to ten years in prison on two counts of rape of a minor, age 16, he being more than three years older at age 26, saying his action's destroyed the girl's family as well as his own.

"It struck me that you called what happened an affair," Buchanan said. "You took advantage of minor. You are a grown man who knows better. You had her sneak out of her parents' house at night. That is not an affair ... having her sneak out to meet you to have sex is criminal thinking."

Marti was charged December 8, 2020, for having sexual intercourse with the victim during the months of March through October, 2020, and a second count for the night of October 31, 2020, when she left her house and rode away with Marti and her parents reported her missing, leading to the investigation.

Buchanan imposed a determinate two year prison term, followed by eight years indeterminate, to run concurrently. He must also pay a $1,000 fine and $1,091 costs, $100 for a DNA analysis, $1,500 for evaluation costs and he must register, upon release, as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
