Far North Fungi; Bonners Ferry's new mushroom club!

May 1, 2022

Welcome Bonners Ferry's new mushroom club -- Far North Fungi! After numerous steering committee meetings and considerations, founders have created a name, set up its board and created special interest committees. Help them kick off their new club by attending a free mushroom seminar, "Foraging for Wild Mushrooms in North Idaho: Safety Tips and Advice," from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at the Kootenai Casino in downtown Bonners Ferry.

This popular class will cover precautions as well as advice from local educator Art Church. A recorded presentation by Taylor Lockwood will be highlighted for discussion; "The Good, The Bad, and The Deadly: Knowing the Poisonous Mushrooms!"

A list of resources for identifying wild mushrooms will be provided to participants. The fee for this class is donation only, to help cover the cost of the room rental.

This mushroom safety class will be a prerequisite for attending future foraging field trips with Far North Fungi.

Far North Fungi will host mushroom foraging field trips in Boundary County, as well as monthly educational meetings. Field trips will be planned during the months of May, June, September and October.

Potential topics for monthly meetings include mushroom identification, medicinal p=roperties of mushrooms, cooking with mushrooms, mushroom preservation, and how to grow mushrooms indoors all year!

Attend the May 5 meeting to learn more about becoming a member.
