Weeks of hard but fun work culminated Saturday evening for 11 talented and intelligent Boundary County High School junior women, with Majasa Allred, Maile Murdock, Nevaeh Elliston, Mia Blackmore, Emma Lucas, Grace Worley, Hailey Kelsey, Maggie Weaver, Jaden Byars, Evelynn Chaney and Leah Moellmer giving their all, but the panel of judges had the unenviable task of choosing just one as Bonners Ferry's 2022 Distinguished Young Woman, and she is Leah Moellmer.

For her achievement, she earned a $2,600 scholarship and additional scholarships of $1,000 for earning one of two scholastic awards and an $850 scholarship for winning the Spirit of DYW award. First runner up is Jaden Byars, earning her a $1,900 scholarship, and second runner up is Mia Blackmore, who earned a $1,200 scholarship as well as additional scholarships of $1,000 for earning a scholastic scholarship and $850 for winning the fitness award.

Winning $850 scholarships were Nevaeh Elliston, interview, and Emma Lucas, Be Your Best Self, and Maile Murdock won two for talent and self expression.

Congratulations to each of this year's Distinguished Young Women participants and thanks to KXLY meteorologist Kris Crocker for once again making the trip from Spokane to Bonners Ferry to emcee the event, to Bonners Ferry's 2021 Distinguished Young Woman Cali Iacolucci for representing her community so well and for her integral role in Saturday's program, to Andrakay Pluid for once again coordinating the program, to all who took part behind the scenes to create another year of great DYW memories, and to all in the community who helped support the program by donating and/or attending on Saturday evening.
