Bonners Ferry FFA shines at competitions

On May 12-13, the Bonners Ferry FFA chapter went to four different contests. The first was State Forestry Contest put on by the Idaho Department of Lands at Farragut State Park. This is a series of eight different contests in a single location to help prepare students on the knowledge of work done for the forestry industry.

The Bonners Ferry FFA chapter consisted of 16 members. Two junior division teams which consisted of Trenton Meyers, Kassidy Durette, Lilly Bremer, Jesse Merritt, MaKenna Baisden, Stryder Liermann, Gaige Johnson, Israel Johnson and Mason Zills.

here were also two senior division teams consisting of Cassidy Underhill, Trew Lammers, Maile Murdock, Haven Madrid, William Hollabaugh, Isaac Bliss and Jacob Bliss.

They all did really well on the contest, with one junior team placing third in the state contest and Mason Zills placing third high individual in the junior division. A huge thank you to Ken Homik, Jim Kibler and Dan Stefano for their help training the Forestry teams.

The next contests were North Idaho District Career Development Events (CDE) held at Timberlake High School.

Two teams represented Bonners Ferry in the Dairy Foods Evaluation Contest; Trenton Meyers, Kassidy Durette, Lilly Bremer, Jesse Merritt, MaKenna Baisden, Stryder Liermann, Gaige Johnson, Israel Johnson and Mason Zills, one team in the Agronomy CDE; Cassidy Underhill, Trew Lammers, Maile Murdockand Haven Madrid, and one team in the Agricultural Mechanics CDE; Trew Lammers, Wyatt McDonald, Seth Fisher Fodge and Noah Bottcher.

The Dairy Foods team placed fifth overall, The Agronomy Team placed second in the North Idaho District with Cassidy Underhill taking third third high individual.

The Agricultural Mechanics team placed second overall, with Wyatt McDonald placing first high individual in electrical and oxy-acetylene brazing, Noah Bottcher placing first in GTAW and third in SMAW and Seth Fisher Fodge third In GMAW and small engine repair.

It was a great week to be a Badger! Congratulations to all teams and students who competed!
