A youth fishing off the Statue of Liberty Pier at Sandpoint
City Beach hooked the clothing of a dead man about 15-feet off
the pier's end Tuesday, prompting a response from multiple
agencies, including Sandpoint Police, Selkirk Fire Department
and the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office Marine Department and
Dive Team.
The incident was reported at about 11:36
a.m. June 7, and divers were able to recover the body of Gary
Bonser, 40, Sagle. It is unknown at this time how long he had
been in the water. The cause and circumstances of his death
are currently under investigation.
