North Idaho State Veterans Home gearing up to welcome vets

June 9, 2022

There's a new veteran's home under construction in Post Falls, with the first veterans expected to be moving in this fall, and the North Idaho Veterans Assistance League is working hard to ensure they'll be warmly welcomed, and seeking sponsors and donors to help fund programs, activities and aid to enhance the quality of life of the vets who will call the facility home.

The North Idaho State Veterans Home is located at 1180 South Clearwater Loop Road, Post Falls, and it will have 64 beds subdivided into four households wings, each supporting 16 private resident rooms with private bathrooms.

Each household will have its own den, sitting lounge and living area. There are also two dedicated dining areas and kitchens that are shared by two households along with multiple outdoor patio areas.
Each household will also have direct access to the main community center, which will include a chapel, barber/beauty shop, bistro, activities center, multipurpose room, sports club and therapy room/gym.

The home will include a central food preparation area, laundry facility, maintenance, supply and administrative offices, as well as an office of veterans advocacy with offices for two state veterans service officers and an office assistant.

The mission of the North Idaho Chapter of the Idaho Veterans Assistance League is to provide assistance to and support for the veterans residing at the North Idaho State Veterans Home and to assist the Idaho Division of Veterans Services in carrying out its mission of serving Idaho’s veterans, who have earned special recognition through their service and sacrifices in protecting our country’s freedoms and individual rights, by providing quality long-term care.

Funds donated will be used to create a homey atmosphere and to provide the residents with security, happiness, dignity, independence and usefulness, all of which contribute to a longer and more fulfilling life.

Donations of any amount are appreciated, or donors can buy inscribed bricks for the North Idaho State Veterans Home Walk of Honor & Appreciation for $200 each, and sponsorships are available ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

Donor and sponsorship forms are available on the North Idaho Veterans Assistance League website, and donations can be mailed to North Idaho Veterans Assistance League, P.O. Box 187, Post Falls, ID 83877.

And it's not just money the league welcomes; quilters are right now sewing "Quilts for Valor" for the first 64 resident veterans, and other groups, businesses, families and individuals are welcome to present their ideas to make the veterans feel more welcomed and at home.
