Mai gets retained jurisdiction for sexual battery of 16 year old

Pursuant to a plea agreement entered into in May, Judge Barbara Buchanan today dismissed two counts of sexual battery of a minor age 16 to 17 years old committed by lewd or lascivious acts against Ryan V. Mai, Bonners Ferry, born in 1976, and sentenced him on one count of sexual battery of a minor age 16 to 17 years old, contact not defined as lewd.

She handed down a sentence of one year determinate, four years indeterminate, jurisdiction retained, fined him $1,000 and $545.50 costs, and ordered that he register as a sex offender.

Mai, Boundary County's 2011 Conservation Farmer of the Year and a former Badger JV and middle school boys basketball coach, was charged November 23, 2021 with three counts of sexual battery of a minor child 16 or 17 years of age for engaging in sexual contact with a 16-year-old girl at least three times between October 16 and November 11, 2021.
