Fire weather watch issued beginning Tuesday evening

September 5, 2022

The National Weather Service, Spokane, has issued a fire weather watch for North Idaho and northeast Washington in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening. Dry and unstable conditions Tuesday followed by gusty winds and dry conditions Wednesday. Hot and dry weather will lead to unstable overnight conditions resulting in elevated to critical fire conditions Tuesday. A frontal system Wednesday will bring gusty winds and continued dry weather.

Look for west winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour and gusting to 30 miles per hour beginning Tuesday evening through Wednesday with relative humidity ranging between eight to 18 percent in the valleys and 18 to 26 percent at higher elevations.

Poor humidity recovery combined with instability overnight may cause high elevation fires to burn actively through the night and gusty winds could cause fires now burning to spread.
