Lifelong county resident needs help after bad fall

March 14, 2023

In November, lifelong Bonners Ferry resident Edwina Owens, 74, stepped off a curb and fell, hitting her right shoulder and head, shredding her rotator cuff. Apparently something during surgery triggered the chronic autoimmune disease Myasthenia Gravis, which causes a breakdown in communication between nerves and muscles, leaving her unable to swallow or speak understandably. There is no cure, and Edwina will suffer symptoms for the rest of her life.

Edwina's family has been in Boundary for close to a century, and Edwina worked at Beauty's Cafe before retiring from Boundary County School District 101 after 37 years of service. She's was an avid gardener whose beautiful flower beds and yard have brightened her neighborhood for years ... almost as much as her bright, beautiful smile.

But she may never be able to garden again and her smile has grown dim.

In an effort to help her with her medical expenses and to cope with her condition, neighbors have established the Edwina Owens Medical Account 7839 at Columbia/Umpqua Bank, and donations can be made at any bankk branch.
