Missing mushroom hunter found safe

UPDATE: At about 11:23 a.m. June 3, Boundary County Public Information officer Andrew O'Neel issued notice that mushroom picker Bourathaphon Inthanthanya has been found and was transported to Boundary Community Hospital, where he was treated and released. Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer extends his thanks to the dedicated men and women of Boundary Search and Rescue.

June 2, 2023

On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an overdue and possibly lost hiker. Bourathaphon Inthanthanya, from Redding, California, was looking for wild mushrooms in the Smith Creek area of Boundary County and did not arrive at an agreed upon destination to meet with the rest of his group. He was last seen on Wednesday at about 5 p.m.

The Boundary County Sheriff’s Office and Boundary County Search & Dive Rescue have been conducting a search of the Smith Creek area since Wednesday, with the assistance of helicopters from Flathead County, Montana, and Spokane County, Washington.

Searchers have not yet located Inthanthanya.

Bourathaphon Inthanthanya is described as a thin Asian male in his 50s. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with white stripes and jeans.

Search crews are not currently asking for search volunteers, however, if anyone has any information about the location of Inthanthanya, please call Boundary County Dispatch at (208) 267-3151, extension 0.

4:55 a.m. June 2: Search aircraft from Spokane will be launching at 5:30 a.m. to assist in the second day's search for a missing, non-local mushroom hunter in the Long Canyon area on the West Side Road.

7:06 p.m.: Search flights from Two Bear Air and Fairchild Air Force Base have been requested for first light Friday. Ground personnel remain on site.

2:31 p.m.: Two Bear Air is returning to base as the ground search continues.

9:38 a.m. June 1: Two Bear Air is working with Boundary Search and Dive Rescue in search of a missing mushroom picker on the West Side Road.
