Three die in Bonner County train vs. car collision

Idaho State Police are investigating a vehicle collision that occurred at about 11:14 a.m. today that claimed three lives at the railroad crossing at North Boyer and Selle Road in Bonner County. The driver of a Subaru Forester was travelling eastbound on West Selle Road from Boyer Road and failed to yield the right of way to a southbound freight train. The train hit the vehicle, knocking it off the roadway, where it overturned.

The Subaru was occupied by a 37-year-old male driver, a 31-year-old female and two juveniles, all of Sagle. All were wearing seatbelts.

Both adults and one of the juveniles were pronounced deceased at the scene. The other juvenile was taken to a nearby hospital via ground ambulance, then transported to a Spokane hospital via Life Flight. The freight train operators were not injured.

The incident remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
