John Roy Platts

John Roy Platts was born on November 18, 1946, in Bonners Ferry to Jesse and Margaret (Harper) Platts. He was born on his mother’s birthday. On December 6, 2021, he died at a hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he had lived for three years. A small family memorial service will be held Saturday, December 11th at his church in North Dakota. Another memorial service will be held at a later date in Portland, Oregon.

John moved to Chula Vista, California, and entered the U. S. Navy. He served on the USS Providence in the Pacific arena; part of their tours included the Vietnam waters. After his military service in 1969, he moved to Portland, Oregon, and married Teresa Luhrs. In 2009, they moved to Medford, Oregon. John was a private man who loved his family ... and the Chargers and the Padres.

John worked at numerous jobs, including Westinghouse, McClure Plastics and Oregon Steel Mills. His last place of employment was with Wagner Mining Equipment in Portland as a heavy equipment mechanic. He retired in 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Teresa, sons Jason (Tammy), Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Stephen (Becki), Medford, Oregon, sister Carol Platts, Richmond, Virginia, brother Robert Platts, Kelso, Washington, five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.
