Michelle Walker earns national accolade

October 17, 2022

Michelle Walker is an instructor of many talents and hats when it comes to fitness formats, and her skill and dedication has earned her the title of  October Water Exercise Instructor of the Month by www.swimandsweat.com. Her classes range from Aqua Zumba to land Zumba, from Aqua Boot Camp to Balance & Mobility. During the school calendar year, she teaches at the Kootenai River Inn while in the summer you can find her at Northside School B & B along with the Bonners Ferry City Pool. Talk about options!

So what made Michelle interested not only in Aqua fitness, but fitness in general?

“I got my start into fitness when I was 45 and going through a dark chapter in my life," she said. "Overweight, out of shape and going through a divorce, I decided to become an instructor with my oldest daughter because we loved Zumba fitness. Class participants started asking questions I couldn’t answer so I went back to college to earn my degree in Physical Education, got my personal trainer certification. I started teaching Aqua Zumba at the age of 46. I earned my AEA certification and a few years later became a Health and Fitness Coordinator of the facility where I worked.”

When asked why she thinks water exercise is important, Michelle said that it is miraculous for healing, empowering and improving fitness levels across the board. “I’ve seen it and experienced it for myself as well as clients and students I’ve been inspired by.”

Thank you, Michelle, for being an Aqua Fitness Superstar and inspiration to many!

Check out what some of her class members had to say:

“What I love about Michelle Walker’s aquatic programs is that she truly cares about each individual in every class. Michelle is extremely knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition. She always gives us incentive and Healthy Hints for an active and Healthy Lifestyle.” - Leslie H.

“Michelle Walker/Walker Wellness has been a huge ingredient to my improved health. Her directed classes are fun and the time passes so quickly it is a surprise when the class ends. Constant movement exercises each set of muscles, large and small. The movement is not only pain reduction, the pain stays away for hours, sometimes more than a day after each session. My balance is better, my psoriatic arthritis more manageable. My rheumatologist told me water exercise is the best; the only exercise that improves circulation without the agitation of joint damage that happens in walking I can walk up stairs now without pain in my knee (soon to be replaced) for the first time in years. My stamina for everyday activities is better than it has been in years My quality of life has improved since having met Michelle and I am grateful to her for this gift of better health. She is friendly, always observing and provides each of us the modifications to movements when we are healing from an injury for our best outcome. Her classes are fun and every student in the class is smiling and happy as we move to music. I cannot thank her enough.” - Sharon H.

“Michelle Walker’s aquatic classes are superb. I have numerous medical issues and she has modified the moves to my needs that have enabled me to have more flexibility and strength. Her classes challenge you to be the best you are… you choose your intensity of the work out. She makes the class fun and a great overall work out.” - Sandy P.
