Earn your second helping at the 13th-annual Turkey Trot

November 20, 2021

For the 13th year, Bonners Ferry is looking forward to another fun, family-friendly and free Turkey Trot 5k/10k fun run this year on Thanksgiving morning.

“This event started as our ‘Second Helping’ run for the day, and now that we’re in our 13th year," said race founder Carolyn Testa. "It’s become a tradition for lots of individuals and families. We’ve grown from 50 runners our first year to just over 200 last year and we collect about five full food barrels for our local food bank!”

The gun goes off promptly at 9 a.m. at the Boundary County Fairgrounds and the route leads runners down Riverside Road to the 5k turnaround past Mirror Lake Road. The 10k continues past the 5k turnaround and will be marked with cones. The water station is near the 5k turnaround.

“It’s a nice little out-and-back, and Jim Cadnum has generously measured out both distances with his running wheel,” said Testa. “Without our volunteers each year, there wouldn’t be an annual Turkey Trot. Talk about being thankful!”

There will be pumpkin pie with whipped cream and hot chocolate with marshmallows and coffee from Under the Sun at the finish line, along with tons of prizes; frozen turkeys, Indian corn arrangements donated by Cadnum, swag from Iron Mike’s Gym, Under the Sun, Dr. Hank Willis, Mountain West Bank, Vinyl Expressions, Cloud Eleven Mountain Farm and more.

Be sure to arrive early enough to get your prize number and play some Turkey Trivia! Costumes, kids and pets are welcome and here’ll be a burn barrel to keep everyone warm near the starting line, along with great parking lot music from an awesome sound system provided by Forerunner Entertainment.

“The run remains free, no registration, and it is timed," Testa said. "It’s a great way to earn your second piece of pie before 10 a.m.!”

In the spirit of giving thanks, participants are asked to bring a non-perishable item of food for the local food bank. To learn more, call Carolyn at (208) 290-7039.

See you at the Turkey Trot!
