KVRC shooters make their mark at Spokane tourney

May 10, 2022

On April 30, four shooters from the Kootenai Valley Rifle Club travelled to Spokane to participate in the 51st annual George Conner Outdoor Smallbore Tournament. They would join 19 other shooters from the Spokane Rifle Club to shoot, with .22 smallbore single shot rifles, at the 100-yard, 50-yard and 50-meter distances.

The first course of fire was 20 shots, in the prone position at 100 yards and then 20 shots, also in prone, at 50 yards. Kyalynn Comer, Paige Sartell and Salix Harris, representing the junior team, all placed second in their class for this course of fire. Kathy Konek, of the senior team, was match winner, only dropping one point of the 400 possible.

The targets then were then moved to the 50-meter point. Comer, as a first-year shooter, shot the next 60 shots staying in the prone position. She again placed second in her class of prone shooters.

Sartell, Harris and Konek, at 50-meters, shot 20 shots in each of the prone, standing and kneeling positions. Sartell placed fourth in the marksman class, Harris second in the sharpshooter class and Konek first in the senior class.

When all targets were combined and the final scores tallied, Comer was first in the prone class. Sartell was fourth in Marksman, missing third by only one point, and Harris was second in the sharpshooter class. Konek finished as top senior.
