The National Weather Service, Spokane, has issued a winter weather advisory for heavy snow moving into the region Tuesday night and a winter storm warning for the system it will usher in. The storm warning goes into effect at 10 p.m. Tuesday and continues through 4 a.m. Thursday.
Total snow accumulations of six to 12-inches are expected in the valleys of North Idaho and northeast Washington with as much as 18-inches falling at higher elevations.
Such heavy snow will make travel difficult and motorists are advised to pack a flashlight, blankets, extra warm clothing, food, water and other emergency equipment and supplies in your vehicle before setting out, even for local travel.
In addition, such snow could bring trees and power lines down, blocking roads and causing widespread power outages.
