Filing period for 2024 primary approaching

Idaho votes logoThe period for filing declarations of candidacy petitions in Boundary County for the May 21 primary election will open at 9 a.m. Monday, March 4, and run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through 5 p.m. Friday, March 15 to have their names on the ballot, March 15 is also the last day to change political party affiliation or become unaffiliated before the primary election.

Those running write-in campaigns have until 5 p.m. Friday, March 22, to file declaration of candidacy.

Boundary County offices open for election are county commissioner districts 1 and 3, prosecuting attorney and sheriff, as well as Democratic and Republican precinct committeemen in each of the county’s six voting precincts.

Special district elections in Boundary County that may be held in May include water and sewer districts, library board and hospital board; 9B News has as yet received no notices of any being held. Candidates running for election to special district seats have until 5 p.m. Friday, March 15 to file; forms are available here.

Declarations of candidacy petitions are available at the Boundary County Clerk’s office in room 22 of the Boundary County Courthouse, 6452 Kootenai Street, Bonners Ferry, and completed petitions must be turned in to the clerk’s office by the submission deadline.
