March 10, 1974 - May 30, 2024In a small town we all know that an obituary has little to do with the telling of a person’s life. In a small town we all knew Kelly or of Kelly and we all have our own personal stories and memories of her. An obituary, while necessary in our society, simply cannot be adequate to begin to describe our lives. This obituary will not even try. Your personal stories of Kelly will forever be her legacy.

Kelly Rae Kerby, a beacon of love and leadership, was born on March 10, 1974, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Patty and Darrell Kerby. Kelly passed away at 4:57 p.m. Central Time on May 30, 2024.

Kelly was a cherished addition to her older sister Dawn, and together they formed an unbreakable bond. Kelly was delivered by Dr. Frank Coram, who shared his birthday with her, and assisted by nurse Veryl Lindsay. Kelly’s arrival marked the completion of the Kerby family.

Kelly’s innate leadership qualities shone through from an early age, captivating and enriching those around her with her love, intellect, and passion. Her life was a testament to friendship, as she turned every acquaintance into a lifelong friend. Her journey was rich with learning, travel, and most importantly, meaningful connections.

Her unwavering integrity and honesty propelled her to great heights in her professional life, from serving as a United States Senatorial aide in Washington D.C. to educating for the Department of Defense in Europe, and ultimately dedicating her life to the insurance industry. Yet it was her impact on people that truly defined her legacy—her empathy, kindness, humor, and compassion were extraordinary.

The adage “to know her is to love her” seems tailor-made for Kelly. She departed to join her heavenly family and friends on May30, 2024 after a nine-month courageous battle against esophageal cancer.

She leaves behind her loving Mother Patty, Father Darrell, Sister Dawn, Nephew Kerby Lewis, Grandmother Elaine Guthrie, Uncle Jon Kerby, her partner Marc Harper and his two children Lauren and Brandon.

In line with Kelly’s selfless nature, and at her request, there will be no funeral service. Instead, those wishing to honor her memory are encouraged to make a charitable donation to a cause dear to their heart, reflecting Kelly’s spirit of generosity.

Kelly’s memory will forever be etched in our hearts, and we take solace in the belief that we will reunite with her in heaven. Rest in peace, our beloved daughter, sister, and friend. You will always be missed and never forgotten.

  1. Patty and Darrell, I am so shocked and sorry to see this. A bright candle has been blown out, but we will cherish the memories.
