Eleanor Jane Speer

October 25, 1933 – June 1, 2024

Heaven gained an angel in the early hours of June 1, 2024. Eleanor Jane Speer lived her whole life in the Puget Sound region, recently moving part time to Bonners Ferry to live with her daughter. Her sons were happy to host her through the last year and a half, but she was always glad to come home.

Born October 25, 1933, she had an incredibly full life, raising one daughter and three sons with her husband Robert, and enjoying seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, who knew her as Grammy or GG (Great Grammy) and she was a great Grammy!

Jane and Bob raised their children with a love of camping, cooking, and family. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed preparing Norwegian, Italian, and American foods, sharing them with family and friends. She enjoyed being a “Snowbird” with Bob, travelling to Yuma during the fall and winter. Jane made many great friends during her travels down south.

Jane was a pioneer for women in business. In 1964 she started in Maintenance and Engineering at Alaska Airlines. By 1973, she had worked her way up to Executive Secretary to the CEO. She tried her hand in Real Estate and worked her way up in a short amount of time. By the late 70s/early 80s she got into catering. She started at the Red Lion in SeaTac in Catering Sales then was promoted to the Director of Catering at the Bellevue Red Lion Hotel. She retired as the Director of Catering at SeaTac, serving banquets for up to 3,000 guests.

Jane loved to tend her rose garden. She was sorely frustrated with the local deer! She loved to read, enjoyed card games and dominoes with friends.

Words cannot express how deeply she will be missed.

Special thanks to the Hall Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, Boundary Ambulance, and Lifeflight.
