Smoke season is upon us

Regional smoke and fire Friday at about 10 p.m. from https://fire.airnow.gov

Expect increased smoke over the region in the days ahead as hot, dry conditions, dry lightning and careless people have converged to kick off smoke season in Boundary County, a season not marked on any calendar but as real and legitimate as the county’s other eight; winter, spring, summer, fall, tourist, road repair, hunting and Badger sports.

There have been no new fires in Boundary County in the past 36 hours, but Bonner County now has the Caribou Patch fire discovered yesterday. It is still under an acre in size.

Several fires are burning in the Moscow area and nothing is currently threatening people or property in Boundar, though it would only take once spark to change that.

Canadian fire teams are fighting 323 active fires in British Columbia, 87 of them set off since Thursday, most by dry lightning.
