Unclaimed big bucks await county residents

According to Idaho State Treasurer Julie Ellsworth there’s over $1-million in unclaimed money floating around that belongs to Boundary County residents, and she’d very much like to see it in the pocketbooks and billfolds of its rightful owners.

Unclaimed property consists of cash or other financial assets considered lost or abandoned when a business cannot find the rightful owner. A few sources of unclaimed money are dormant savings accounts, uncashed checks, life insurance payments, death benefits, utility deposits and escrow refunds.

Each year, Idaho’s Unclaimed Property Division receives millions of dollars in unclaimed money from businesses and organizations that have lost contact with the owners. The State of Idaho is responsible for safeguarding the money forever until claimed by the rightful owners or heirs.

Ellsworth encourages all Idahoans go online to yourmoney.idaho.gov, type in your name and see if any of that money is yours.
