Family left with little after house fire, GoFundMe set up

Delwyn and Twyla Freed

Updated 11:12 a.m. Friday, August 23: While firefighters were able to contain a fire to the kitchen of the home in the 3300 block of District 2 Road where it started, intense heat melted or burned nearly everything in the adjoining living room and smoke reached and ruined nearly everything else in the house, leaving the family of four with little but the clothes they were in when they escaped the home.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

The home owner called 911 at around 5 p.m. to report that a microwave caught fire; the family all got out of the home safely, but watched helplessly as the fire spread.

The church family of Delwyn and Twyla Freed and their two young daughters, ages two years and eight months old, has stepped in to provide for immediate needs, so at present monetary contributions are most beneficial, and a close family friend set up the “Help Delwyn & Twyla Restart After Fire” fundraiser on GoFundMe.

Checks made out to Delwyn Freed can be mailed to Fire Fund, c/o 9B News, 6619 Kootenai St., Bonners Ferry, 83805.

“Delwyn & Twyla, a sweet family with two little girls, had their house catch fire on Thursday afternoon, due to a malfunctioning microwave outlet,” close family friend Danielle Skrivseth wrote. “We are praising God for his protection over each one of them. However, although the fire itself stayed in the kitchen area, the whole house suffered so much heat and smoke damage that they have basically nothing but the clothes on their backs. Let’s bless them with some funds to replenish all that they lost.”

Donations of household items, clothes and the lik\e can be dropped off inside the double white doors at Kootenai Valley Mennonite Church, 782 Moon Shadow Road, Bonners Ferry.
