TC Energy will be conducting a Natural Gas Pipeline Blowdown today between 9 a.m. and noon. A natural gas pipeline blowdown is a routine procedure that involves releasing pressurized natural gas from a pipeline to allow operators to safely perform maintenance, inspections, construction, and emergency response.
During a blowdown, operators isolate and depressurize a section of the pipeline, typically venting the gas to the atmosphere.
Residents and passersby in the area of Pine Street to Maas Loop may experience odors from methane emissions, see large plumes reaching as high as one mile, and/or hear a loud roaring sound. This is normal and expected to last approximately an hour. Law Enforcement and first responders are aware and standing by in case of an emergency.
