Rowdy BFHS Class of ’54 gathers

BFHS Class of 1954Kitty Kalen’s “Little Things Mean a Lot” was the #1 song in the nation 70 years ago and folks flocked to the movie theaters to make “White Christmas” the top grossing movie of 1954. In Bonners Ferry last week, rowdy BFHS classmates of 1954 gathered at the home of Dick and Kathy Schneurle 70 years on.

Dick joined his sister and fellow classmate, Caroline Schneurle, Helen Seaman Hill, and Irene Merrifield Rice on Monday, August 19, to visit, share old memories and partake of a lovely lunch prepared by Kathy Schneurle and Sue Schneurle Witt. Irene’s oldest and youngest daughters, Verna Rice Studer and Rosanna Rice Cartwright joined the group.

The 1954 classmates boasted that they were the first students to graduate from eighth grade in both Valley View or Mount Hall! Not able to attend were: Sally Witt Sheldon, Loretta Woodel, Lavelle Carter Turner, Bob Chervenell, Don Dirks, Gayle Pinthole Kinsell, Joyce Nelson , Donna Pekarski Stuhr, Beth Spalding Wright, Nina Tritt Lennon, and Lenora (Toots) Levig Rudman.

They are reaching out to fellow living 1954 classmates to share this photo and greetings: Dr. Jerry Bauman of Eagle, ID; Irene Callahan, Nevada; Lois Cornell; Jerry Heitt, Tekoa, WA; and Harlene King Lund, Utah. If anyone has the contact info for the last list, please contact Verna Rice Studer, (208) 792-1408 or vernastuder@gmail.com.
