When it rains, it pours, and a young Bonners Ferry couple is reeling, grasping at reeds trying to stay afloat. And so far, the reeds have been sparse. Having lost their infant daughter August 26, they were informed last week by the landlord of the tiny and run-down studio apartment they’ve rented on Hazel Street since February that they’d have to rehome Hannah’s registered service dog, a border collie named Remington. She sent Remington to her parent’s house. Then, Hannah said, they were informed their rent was going from $500 to $1,100.
When she protested, they were told to be out by September 30. Told that there are laws to protect tenants in landlord/tenant disputes … Hannah demurred, saying she didn’t to escalate the situation.
“She’s not really a landlord,” Hannah said, “She’s a member of our church who helped us out.
An article published on 9B.News telling of the family’s and calling for the community’s help had but sparse effect; with their GoFundMe account receiving just $2,435 of the $10,000 they anticipated they’d need for funeral expenses and to make ends meet while Adrian was off work, and donations were scant to nonexistent at drop- off points the Hope House and Coldwell Banker Realty.
And their lives had only this year started turning around.
Adrian and Hannah Teutsch, 21 and 20, moved back to Idaho in July 2023 following a dismal year in Michigan, where they lived in a tent for nearly a year. Hannah fell ill in the icy winter, experiencing a thyroid storm that nearly claimed her life and reduced to nearly nil the chance that she’d fulfill their dream of ever having children.
Then, in September, Hannah became pregnant. In February, 2024, Adrian landed a good entry-level job at Alta Mill In Naples and they were able to move out of her parent’s too-small home and into the Hazel Street apartment.
They welcomed Hadrianna Joy on June 24, their lives blessed.
Now, they are making their daughter’s final arrangements, planning her services at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 22 at the Bonners Ferry Seventh Day Adventist Church, 513353 US-95.
Their need now is greater by far that it was just two days ago.
“I don’t want it to sound like we’re desperate,” Hannah said when I asked if I could write a follow-up, “but we’re desperate.”
Adrian is off work for a few more days, and he is in need of work clothes for fall and winter, seize large shirts, 36 x 36 pants and size 11 1/2 shoes or boots. Hannah wears small or medium shirts, size 8 or medium pants and a 9 1/i2 or 10 shoe. Items for donation can be dropped off at Hope House, 6389 Bonner Street, Bonners Ferry, or at Coldwell Banker, 6606 Lincoln Street, Bonners Ferry.
Eli Pine of Hope House is organizing a fundraiser for Hannah and Adrian … details will be coming soon.
Their car is struggling, and now they are in dire need of a home they can rent, as well as the down, deposit and first and last. A GoFundMe account has been established, and donations payable to Adrian or Hannah Teutsch, cards and letters can be mailed to Teutsch Family, c/o 9B News, 6619 Kaniksu St., Bonners Ferry, ID 83805.
