Everyone has a talent they imagine might lift them from ordinary to extraordinary, that will elevate them from the factory, the store, the routine 9 to 5 with a week’s vacation at the end of the year … and most spend their lives with their talents on hold, their days traded for security. But there are people, few and far between, who risk security for their talent.
And it’s not merely their own fears and uncertainties they overcome, their own insecurity, but societal wisdom as well.
“When I first went full-time with my art,” Hannah Sucsy said, “I heard comments like ‘well you’ll probably be able to make enough for gas money, right?’ I still get comments from people who are surprised my gallery is still here. It’s amazing to me how prevalent the assumption of my failure is.”
And she’ s celebrating.
“Since opening my solo gallery in April of 2023, I have sold 216 original artworks, as well as a few hundred print reproductions.” she said. “In September, I had to close my books for commissions in order to get caught up. I could not have imagined how much my work would resonate with people. I hear almost daily from people that they love what I’m doing, that it inspires them, and that it brings them joy. It is an incredible blessing to me that by doing the thing I love, others are touched and uplifted. People are buying my art and it is bringing something connected, alive, and healing to their homes.”
Today, Hannah, also known as Teascarlet, will hold her second annual Beer Sit from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teascarlet Fine Arts, 6389 Kootenai Street, Bonners Ferry.
“This event was born out of a bit of sarcasm, when I wasn’t included in the Wine Walk last July,” Hannah said. “I formed my own event for people who don’t like wine, don’t like walking … thus, the Beer Sit!”
To express her thanks and overflowing gratitude, Hannah will be giving away some of her original art next week.
“This is a limited time offer with limited stock,” she said. “I have a priority list who will get access two days before everyone else.
