Mikey Bjoraker in critical care, visitors welcome

Idaho State Police are investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian injury crash that occurred Tuesday evening on US 95 near milepost 507, near the Liberty Station in Bonners Ferry.

According to the ISP, Mikey Bjoraker, 45, who lives nearby, was attempting to cross US95 outside of the crosswalk at about 5:48 p.m. when he was struck and seriously injured by a southbound silver 2016 Honda Odyssey driven by a 78-year-old Bonners Ferry man. ISP does not release the names of those involved in incidents under investigation, Mikey’s name was provided with permission by a close family friend.

Mikey, a long time Special Olympics athlete representing Bonners Ferry and much beloved fixture in the community and especially his South Hill neighborhood, was transported to Boundary Community Hospital via ground ambulance and later flown to Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene. The driver of the Honda Odyssey and his 69-year-old female passenger were both wearing seatbelts and were not injured.

The southbound lane of US 95 was blocked for approximately 2 1/2 hours with alternating traffic. The Idaho State Police was assisted by Bonners Ferry Police Department, Bonners Ferry Fire Department, and the Idaho Transportation Department and the incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

Mikey is able to receive visitors, donations, cards and letters, but no flowers as yet, at Kootenai Health, Critical Care 2, Room 2208, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814. In addition to family here, he has family traveling in from out of state to be with him, and they ask the community’s continued love and prayers.
