
Last night was senior night for the boys’ varsity basketball team. The stands were packed to cheer on and support the five senior basketball players. Many friends, family and fans showed up to reminisce and support the Badgers as they were honored at last nights’ game.
Coaches Nathan William and Jed Bateman along with the rest of the team; Ty Schrock, Peyton Hinthorn and Sulay Abubakari stood with pride as the senior names were read and they took the court as the starting line-up.
Superfan, scorekeeper and announcer, Lisa Carle had the distinct honor of reading the expanded senior roster. With tears of pride behind her voice, she knocked it out of the park and did justice to each senior as they graced the court with their families.
- Thomas Bateman, number 14, a shooting guard, also enjoys baseball and fishing. After high school he plans to go on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His favorite memory of the sport is winning state last year and he is most proud of getting ‘first team all-tournament’ at the state tournament. Each senior offers up advise to future players and his is ‘Listen to your coach and give 100% effort every play.’
- Eli Blackmore, number 3 a guard also enjoys soccer, golf, hiking and swimming. He has no plans yet after high school. His favorite memory and accomplishment during his basketball career is winning state last year. Eli’s advice to future players is to ‘Be patient.’
- Ivaan Cartwright, number 15 a forward also enjoys hiking, fishing and hunting. He plans to attend Boise State University after high school. His favorite memory of basketball is swimming at 1 a.m. after winning state last year and he is most proud of being state champions and his advice to future players to is ‘Practice great habits.’
- Brody Rice, number 5, point guard also enjoys football, baseball, golf, riding horses, being outdoors and hanging out with his friends. He is not entirely sure what he will be doing after high school but thinks he may open up a breakfast diner called ‘Babes Breakfast.’ His favorite memory is singing ‘We Are Young’ at the back of the bus on the way home after away games. He is most proud of winning state last year and offers this advice: “Enjoy it while it lasts.”
- Asher Williams, number 12, shooting guard also enjoys hiking, fishing, track, traveling, playing pool and cooking. He is signed at Montana Tech to play basketball next year and plans to study business. His favorite memory of his basketball career is eating at Tuscanos after winning the state championship last year. He is most proud of setting the new school record for scoring points in a single game. His advice to future players is ‘Be the best in your roll.’
The boys had a pretty incredible game against the St. Maries Lumberjacks, winning 80-34 bringing their undefeated record to 15-0.
You can catch the boys’ varsity team at home again on Tuesday night the 28th when they take on the Lakeland Hawks. JV will play at 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.
